Chapter 6 – Dark Side of the Moon

Part 1

  • Orchid arrives at the show, going in through what turns out to be the back entrance. Cami tricked her into dressing up punk (“it’s dress code!”) and coming up onto the stage.
  • Crow was told the same thing about dressing up, but no one in the whole venue is dressed up, not even Cami or Leon.
  • Cami points out Anais in the crowd, “See! She dressed up!”
  • Crow: “SHE’S ALWAYS DRESSED LIKE THAT”
  • Orchid is forced to dance while they play.

Part 2

  • Crow and eXellence (Cami and Leon) perform the song Crow wrote the lyrics to.
  • The song is called Dark Side of the Moon, and it’s very clearly about Penumbra. So much so that anyone can see it’s a confession.
  • He sings his heart out, Penny has fun watching.
  • By the end of the song, it doesn’t look like Penny understood the message.
  • Crow is hurt, takes it as a rejection and walks off the stage.

Part 3

after his implied rejection by penny on stage, he takes some time to himself out side. eventually he is met by Cami, who offers him a cigarette.

(camis offer of a cigarette is reminiscent of their time in high school)

they aren’t friends, not really. they only ever hung out during those secret smoke breaks. venting to each other or just complaining about shit. its been the same now since their reunion around penny the past few months. cami breaks the silence, “welcome to the club”.

crow assumes she means the band, taking his performance on stage as a rite of passage. clearly though, cami meant the “Penny Rejection Club.”

Part 4

anais, to me, is the most adult character in the entire comic.

she is predictably unpredictable. selfishly and unabashedly herself.

however, she’s not unaware. she’s not oblivious. she’s not stupid. she’s not emotionally incompetent.

(she joined the friend group late, but she can immediately tell penny’s whole persona is fake. that crow is in love with penny. that orchid is forming a crush. cami (for comedic purposes) is the only person she takes at face value. anais chooses not to do anything about their issues, instead preferring to let them suffer through the consequences of their actions. mistakes are the best teacher.)

meanwhile, anais goes to hang out next to penny. they awkwardly talk about nothing, anais dropping all of her typical performance. but anais sees penny’s obliviousness and decides not to get involved. she’ll figure it out on her own. she slams down the rest of her drink, and goes back to her usual self.

Part 5

after her smoke, cami goes to see penny, not wanting crow to end up like her. she tells penny point blank that the song was about her.

penny is annoyed but eventually appears to put it together. she says she’ll talk to crow about it soon. not today.

orchid meets up with crow the next day to ask him out. surprisingly to orchid, he accepts, and they go on a date.
