I was “trying” to go simple and only use a single shadow and single highlight layer just to see how it would go. i failed.

Finally finished an older WIP of Penumbra.
She used to be like… THE OC for me for a while. My comic centers around her. But that ho Anais popped into existence and very literally pushed her out of the spotlight. So I’m happy to give her some love with a proper solo drawing instead of all the low effort doodles and comic panels.
Fun fact: I spelled my name wrong in my signature π
Was just messing around doodling. I wanted to show Piper doing what she’s kinda come to be known for: thoughtlessly rude comments.
I forgot Charlie was wearing a hat and wrote (what i thought was) a generic rude comment. Charlie responded and I was like “πwhoops.” Well, it worked out. And we got Piper acting like, “… heyyyyπ .”
The thread where it happened is here:
Her first appearance ever! She’s good at beach! I wasn’t intending to make her a full blown character, honestly. I just had the clothing and hair design in mind and wanted to show it off to my wife and a couple friends.
I was bullied into making her real, multiple people saying to give into the brainrot.
What put the nail in the coffin was Chel saying, “Can I make a girlfriend for her?”
I said, “If you did, I’d have no choice but to turn her into a full character.”
Bruh, I didn’t even have a name for her and Chel was already making her gf.
Here’s the first sketch I showed off:
I also used her to fuck around with gradient maps. Fun!
Made this to use as an icon on the website, artfight, whatever. Unfortunately, I don’t think I like it π€
Part of the “thirst trap” series of my characters lmao.
I liked the original color doodle, too.
Finally updated Roxy’s reference sheet since the original made. I think the original ref was made back on August 22, 2022 and posted to Twitter.
Here’s the old one for comparison!
Her face has changed a little. Ignoring the shape (which is whim based, but I like to keep her cheeks a bit round), the main differences are in her eyebrows and eyelashes. Her eyebrows are bushier and orange now, and her eyelashes don’t fan downward anymore. The triangles were dumb and the downward fan was annoying for me to draw.
I also gave her MORE moles. She went from 4 to 10. The mole and freckle placement guides have always been meant to be suggestions for other people; it doesn’t really matter.
Made this one to be a new profile picture on bsky. I was suuuuper tired when I made this. Workin’ on like… 3 hours of sleep spread across 6 hours. It was fucked up. Anyway, I played around with chromatic abberation and random noise. Turned out pretty good!
The background was made in 0.0003 seconds. I will probably redo it when I’m not so zombie π΄
